This is our new favorite Chinese food place! The prices are great and the food tastes very fresh. The place is small and cozy but we usually take out. It is nice to know they deliver so on those days when I have a head cold and Hot & Sour soup is the cure. Try it You'll like it!!

The owner was very nice and friendly. I ordered the beef and mushrooms and it was delicious. The egg rolls are a meal themselves. I ordered the lunch special and for the price, this was a steal. Tasteful and a good price plus a sweet owner? What's not to like. I found my Chinese food fix joint.

We ordered the Singapore mei fun and it was good. The lady is a native Cantonese speaker but handles Mandarin as well. I spoke Cantonese with her and felt really homey. We also had the hot and sour soup, which was awesome on a cold, cold late Nov night. Wish I could go back for more but we were in town only for two nights. Translation on the menu is not the best, I wish I had time to help her a bit, first thing I would recommend is replace "brown" and "White" sauce with something more savory, like, "maple syrup flavored hoisin/soy sauce" and "chicken stock reduction infused white wine sauce".

Above average Food and for a relatively good price. I haven't been disappointed yet. I've been a frequent visitor for the past year and I'm pleased. Its a nice small place that can get VERY busy. GREAT customer service, they're all very nice people. No orders have ever been messed up nor have I had any complaints at all. Egg rolls and chicken/beef on a stick are both very good here and the small meals are very filling. The PUPU for 2 is relatively hefty and oddly satisfying. Definitely a place to make you love food that isn't good for you! I'd recommend this place to any one and everyone.

I'm new to Portland and trying lots of new places and this one may become one of my go-tos. I recommend the pupu platter. The beef teriyaki was incredible. So tender, moist and the flavors were surprisingly delightfully sweet. So good. You've got to try it. I also recommended the Fun Mei which is a yummy thin noodle dish that hit the spot. My friend got the General Tsos and said it may have been the best he's ever gotten. Very clear that the food is made with quality ingredients with care. The restaurant itself is small with a couple of booths, there were some folks sitting and waiting for takeout orders when I popped in to pick up my order. It looks like a little family run place and they were all super friendly. The food was ready to go in no time. Will definitely order from here again.

I freely admit my bias upfront here!!! There are more Chinese places now then when I was growing up in Portland. We stopped here at random one night and my husband and dad found it perfectly fine to eat. The prices are reasonable and the serving sizes are as generous as I would hope/expect. But the Chinese take away loving part of my palette will always belong to Lang's.

When I moved to Portland 4 years ago I was upset to learn that there isn't a standout great Chinese restaurant in the area. I love Chinese food and am from a hometown with a great place to go for it. A friend told me about Evergreen about a year ago and its hands down the best in the area. Not a place to sit down, really, but if you're cool with getting take out its the best option around.

We went to Evergreen on Christmas night and really wish we hadn't. They were very nice in all fairness and quite busy. We didn't mind waiting and they have tea for people to drink and its serve yourself on the tea. The lighting is a little harsh and reminds me of a strange New York deli. We ordered a cashew chicken meal to split and an order of steamed dumplings. The wait was about 30 minutes for takeout and it was strange that some people who came in after us, sitting at a table, got their food first. May have been that our dumplings were taking longer. We got home and started eating. We were disappointed by the flavor and quality of the cashew chicken and the dumplings were some of the worst I've ever had. The only thing that I'd eat again were the crab rangoons but I wouldn't go out of my way for them. Maybe we got the wrong items but cashew chicken and steamed dumplings are my go to so if they can't get me with that I probably won't be back.

Yummy in my tummy!! This is EXACTLY what I wanted. The perfect Sunday comfort food. Americanized-chinese food at its best. Beef teriyaki, crab rangoon, low mein, chicken tenders, and pork fried rice. All so good - and cheap! We got delivery to portland and very pleased. Also, can't forget the duck sauce. It was just how I like it. Next time I have hankering for chinese, I know where its at!

I ordered the general Taó chicken, the flavor was good, but very disappointed at the fact that the breading was so thick with very little meat inside.

The portions you receive at Evergreen are substantial. The pricing points are unique in that some things are more expensive at other establishments and some things are cheaper. I gave Evergreen a try when I first moved to Maine and didn't like it very much. I tried them again recently (2 years later) and was equally dissatisfied the second time around. The food: Meh...I've experienced better. My beef and broccoli was decent enough (though the sauce was really thick), but I requested spicy, and spicy it was not. The pork fried rice tasted dried out and was flavorless. The egg roll tasted like it had been sitting for a long while, soggy and not crisp and the filling was bland. The wonton soup tasted extremely watered down and was completely flavorless (I did appreciate the ample pieces of pork and veggies!). The wontons themselves weren't actually wontons, which was surprising. It looked as though the filling was placed in the middle of the wonton and it was balled up and pinched. Other than the unappealing shape, the filling itself didn't have much in the realm of flavor. (this is one of those...you don't really appreciate it until its gone moments). My wife also complained that her food was bland and stale. While there were highlights to the meal: large egg roll and authentic spicy mustard (though watered down), the truth is there are many other local Chinese/American restaurants within proximity to the area that are way better.

Finally! I found a go-to place in the Portland area for Chinese food takeout. I've tried them all and this place is the best so far. Keep in mind that tonight was my first visit, but I'm hoping that it will remain consistently good. Here's a breakdown of my experience. This is a very small place with 5-6 booths. It appeared clean and the staff were friendly Take out Order placed 5pm Order ready 515pm Ordered: sm chicken fingers, sm crab rangoon, 2 egg rolls, sm chicken chowmein. Everything was hot and fresh. Fingers, rangoon and egg rolls were cooked well and crispy. I would prefer less onion/scallion in my rangoon, but that's just me. The chowmein was delish and cooked perfectly. They do offer crispy chowmein noodles, but they're the big ones and not the thin sticks which I prefer. They also don't give enough of the noodles they do offer even after I asked for extra. Total cost was approx $18. Overall I would recommend this place for the items I ordered and will be returning.

Great Chinese food veggies were crisp and fresh and the wonton soup was great wish I lived closer because between the quality the taste and the price it's hard to beat

Eh...is what I have to say. Food was edible, but lacked depth of flavor in everything( pork lo mein, sautéed pea pods, pan fried dumplings, fried rice and chicken wings). I ordered delivery and received great service, friendly phone conversation when taking my order, but I won't be returning. I want vibrant delicious flavor; pops of spice, crisp veggies, great sauces...this is not the place. Portland, Maine...please get a good Chinese restaurant!!!

I want so badly to find a decent Chinese place to eat, but I have eaten here three times and this is not the place... I tried General Taos chicken, Kung pow chicken, and beef and Broccoli, pork friend rice, egg roll and wonton soup. The chicken used in the General Taos are the worst bits of the chicken, brown and gristly with bits of cartilage. The breading is done by some factory of the food provider. The sauce flavor isn't bad but it has the constancy of jelly. I left most of it. Kung pow was probably the best, but it's a hard to screw up. Veggies were okay not fresh but not too soft. Tasty sauce chicken was mostly white and not bad. Beef and broccoli. The beef was like rubber, and slimy. The sauce had way too much fish sauce added. The broccoli was over cooked and soggy The egg rolls are the same premade ones that most places get. Won ton soup was not good, despite people's suggestions. There was some fresh veggies, but the broth was subpar. I still would love to find a affordable Chinese place that actually makes there food instead of frying premade garbage... Oh well

If you are looking for American-Chinese food that is tasty and a good value, then this is the place. We have been regulars since Michelle opened her doors and will go nowhere else when we are in the mood for quick Chinese takeout. The food is consistent, the vegetables are always cooked crisp fresh, and the noodles are just the way you expect lo mein to be cooked. Is it gourmet? No. Is it extraordinary and surprising? No. It is exactly what you expect from take-out Chinese except BETTER. When you walk in the door you are instantly welcomed and treated like the valued customer you are. Even in their busy times you do not usually have to wait more than 15-20 minutes for your order. I highly recommend their dinner combinations, they are a great value! Give Evergreen a try if you are hankering for American-Chinese food - you will not be disappointed.

The place is a typical, strip-mall, take-out/counter-service, small Chinese place -- which is what I was in the mood for. I didn't particularly want to eat out, but there was nothing at home to eat, so I wanted somewhere as cheap as possible (within reason). Enter the search for a quality Chinese "grease hut," as I call such places. In a perfect world, I'd give this a 2.75, but instead I have to go for the 2. It just wasn't a 3 to me. The atmosphere: typical. Four or five booths, a large TV tuned to a network station, a counter, a young, Anglo hostess, and a busy, semi-open kitchen with lots of staff speaking Chinese, but it wasn't too loud overall. The highway outside brought the atmo points down a notch, as did the excessive amounts of styrofoam -- more on that below. The staff: friendly. No complaints. Also, an adorable, very young (4 years old?) Chinese boy was roaming around and occasionally interacting with customers at another table. He were probably bored to death, but he was really well-behaved anyway. When I wasn't conversing with my partner, I amused myself with watching him. Overall, I felt that we were taken care of and well-tended to. The menu: very typical, with a few unique items. I did like the udon options, which you don't often find in Chinese places. The wait: reasonable. They were pretty busy with take-out orders; a couch was there for people to wait for their food, and it was full most of the time. We ordered fries to start (yes, I know, but it's one of the few foods I can't make easily at home), and they came out quickly. The food then followed at an appropriate time. The presentation: a lot of points off here, mostly due to the styrofoam. EVERYTHING was served in styrofoam, like it was going out of style. (Actually, it has been out of style for 30 years, when it became common knowledge that it's not biodegradable, but that's another story.) The water, the appetizers, the food: everything came in styrofoam. It felt cheap and environmentally horrible. We got sit-down food; could we please have at least plastic, reusable plates and cups, with metal silverware? I just don't respect this at all. The food: The fries were good BUT -- they were out of ketchup "tonight." OK...so we ate them with sweet-and-sour instead, which had way too much red food dye in it and wasn't that good. I quickly discovered I was STARVING and wolfed them down. Some ketchup really would have been helpful though -- the S&S really wasn't equivalent. Then came the entrees, a veggie udon (not on the menu, so I thank them for making that specially for us) and a general tso's tofu with steamed rice, both of which we split. The portions were generous but not insultingly huge -- just about right. The udon was fine, but the tso's was sweeter than rock candy -- I kid you not. It was so sweet that I couldn't finish it, though otherwise I left pretty satisfied. My partner, on the other hand, told me that she felt horrible from the food and had a huge stomachache afterward, which lasted the rest of the night. Me? No stomachache, but I felt really weird the rest of the night. Granted, I was a bit tired earlier in the day, but after this meal, I felt like my head was spinning, and I was kind of delirious, to a disturbing degree. Was it all the sugar, of which I normally don't each much? Was it MSG? I don't know if they use it or not, and it's not *quite* the typical symptoms. Was it just a coincidence? I'll probably never know for certain. One thing I do know is that the day after, I seem to be unusually sensitive to tastes; everything tastes very intense to me. Bottom line: $23 later, my partner got a big stomachache, and I'm frightened to eat our leftovers although I do remember leaving happy as we walked out the front door of the place. We definitely won't come back, but I wish them the best as the owner seemed very committed. I know it's hard to run a small business, and they seem to be giving it their all, but I would really encourage them to invest in some reusable flatware and silverware, to warn people who are ordering fries when they are out of ketchup, DEFINITELY to cut WAY down on the sugar, and if they are using MSG, to cut that out as well. Nice place but flawed.

A very good Chinese restaurant that is local, fast, friendly, and good. They have never disappointed. The staff has always been willing to make items the way I desire. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is the food is very good but not great. Other Chinese restaurants make some of the same items I order but a little better. Like I said, good and never disappointing but not great. If you are looking for a local place to get good Chinese food quickly and at a reasonable price, then I recommend Evergreen.

The food, for the most part, was amazing and very well priced! The chicken fingers for the sweet and sour chicken were golden, crispy and flavorful. The crab Rangoon were delicious. The beef teriyaki was out of this world, the best I've ever had! My husband had the sesame chicken and raved about its perfection! He said, the chicken wasn't fatty, the sauce was flavorful and it was still very crispy after the drive to our house. When ordering a dinner special the price includes an appetizer, a soup, fried rice AND your entrée. All of which come in good sized portions. I was impressed to get all of this for 8-9 dollars! The pork fried rice that accompanied my dinner special was overall pretty bland. The pork itself had good flavor but there wasn't a whole lot of that to be found. The wonton soup was a huge flop for both my husband and I. It was way over cooked and the noodles were fall apart soggy to begin with. The real deal breaker though was the texture inside the wonton. An odd crunch like celery or another vegetable that I've never had inside my wontons. I won't be ordering that again! We fed my family of four and had lots of left overs for only $37 AND had some amazing food despite the soggy/crunchy wontons and the bland rice. We will be ordering from here again!

Great experience! Owner was very friendly and welcoming to everyone who came in; greeted many of her customers by name. Food was very good and quite reasonably priced. Clean restaurant. Positive marks all around! Well done! Looking forward to going back.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
